Hue Help works in central Vietnam to improve the health, education and future prospects of disadvantaged children. Working through local partners we provide mobile health care, support a home for children, run swimming training for children in flood zones and operate an international volunteer programme. We believe that local people should be at the heart of our programmes, promoting sustainability and ensuring that the people we work with are able to maintain their customs, culture and traditions.
Hue Children's Shelter
Hue Children's Shelter (formally known as the 'Home of Affection orphanage') is home currently to thirty seven children, who have either no parents, or parents that are too poor or sick to care for them.
In 2007, the shelter faced financial difficulty and the possibility of closure. After discussions with local government, shelter staff and children, there was a strong consensus amongst all involved that the shelter should stay over. From January 2008, we became the main sponsor for this home, in co-operation with the Department for Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Thua Thien Hue (DOLISA). But we did not just agree to keep it open. We made a commitment to improving the quality of health, education and well being of all the children there, to create an enviroment suitable for the growth and development of children.
Swimming for Safety
In Hue city and throughout the province flooding is extremely common, yet it is common for both adults and children to be unable to swim. By providing free swimming lessons for the most disadvantaged children - who are also those most likely to be living in precarious housing in flood prone areas - we can help limit the human cost of extreme weather conditions.
Our Swimming for Safety programme has two elements - a rural and an urban operation.
Volunteer in Vietnam
At Hue Help, we offer a variety of volunteer opportunities in and around Hue city. We have spent a long time working to develop a programme that focuses on providing quality services to the people we are trying to assist. At the same time, volunteering should be accessible, affordable and a rewarding experience for everyone involved.
We have two broad options for volunteering - individual volunteers and group volunteers. We are really open to new ideas and new partners however, so if you have some specific skills or a specific purpose you would like to achieve, then please do get in touch and we will happily discuss your ideas.
